Whew. Whirlwind not yet abated I nevertheless need to shout out.
New digs, new job, new love interest. Unfortunately I’ll need to remain ambiguous on the latter. How very unfortunate. Sigh.
Living in the good old Highlands still; but a stone’s throw away from the old place and amazingly enough yet closer to Cherokee Park. Love it. I may have found my favorite dwelling. To get any closer to Cherokee I’d have to be a rich bastard. Heh!
Life is good. We are all so incredibly lucky.
I’m working now for a local IT company and loving it. It’s a great group of guys and I’m starting to fit in. A bit of a learning curve compared to their knowledge but I’m afloat so far and really looking forward to its development.
Auf Wiederschreiben!

PS Watched ‘Romulus, My Father’ recently. Good flick. Franka Potente (melt). I was a bit taken aback because it’s the first film I saw where her character isn’t so easily likable. Thought provoking and real. One line struck a tone, which was a quote from Bertrand Russell: ‘Time you enjoy wasting is not wasted time’. Smart dude. I like it.

Had one of those simple fix moments that there are probably much more convoluted solutions so here we go:
So here’s you: You’ve got a USB (or regular) turntable hooked up, that has a built in pre-amp; you just want to playback vinyls through your PC speakers and doing that leaves you with the MIC port. Very smart-audio salesperson told you to use the ’special software’ included and use the USB cable. When you opened it up you understood the meaning of GNU/GPL and may have slapped your forehead.
M-kay. Your turntable has a pre-amp because you knew ahead you were going to use PC speakers:
Step One: Slap that baby on ‘line’ (now we’re using the pre-amp).
Step Two: use some annoying audio cable connections that get you another 3.5mm (think Walk-man) jack on the end. You’re now male to male. That goes into the mic port on your PC.
Step Three: Unrwrap Audacity CD. Place on desk. Place coffee, tea, or other beverage on Audacity CD. Then, (if you want to record – outside of scope of this post – download the latest version here)
Step Four: Rightclick your volume icon from the system tray and click ‘Recording Devices’
Step Five: Select ‘Microphone’ and click the ‘Listen’ tab
Step Six: Check ‘Listen to this device’, set playback device to ‘Speakers’, click ‘Apply’, then ‘OK’.
Step 7: Listen to some Chet Baker.
Thing is I don’t see the benefit at this point of using the USB connection. Maybe I’m missing something.

Sifting through all the malarkey that’s strewn about inter-webz these days can be a challenge so I thought I’d take my first post here (hello world) and give a shout out to a small handful of sites of which I make the most use in this industry. Granted there is a multitude of online tools that are crucial as well, like your DNS query-bombers, domain searches, propagation trackers, etc. We’ll focus here strictly on design or development, and try to keep the list tiny. read article »
